On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!!

The 2016 Summer Reading Program is for children ages 6-11 (or students entering grades K-6).  Registration begins May 23; children can register through June 24.

  • Programs begin June 6. Grand Finale Party June 30.
  • Each of our four branches hosts a weekly activity.
  • Register at your local branch. Depending on their age and reading level, children can choose one of two ways to log their books
    (1) By Number of Books:
    -  For 6-8-year-olds or those reading picture books
    -  Read 16 books (an average of four per week) to receive a completion prize
    -  For every 10 books you read, earn a grand prize entry ticket!
    OR
    (2) By Number of Hours:
    -  For 9-11-year-olds or those reading chapter books
    -  Read for a total of 8 hours (an average of two hours per week) to receive a completion prize
    -  For every 2 hours you read, earn a grand prize entry ticket!

Keep track of your reading by filling in your reading log kept at your local branch.

The Wetland Wildlife Express is a mobile educational program brought to you by the New Orleans Pelicans and Audubon Zoo. This program offers an up-close experience with our wetland’s most important inhabitants. Children will learn about the wildlife that depends on the wetlands for their homes, meals and nurseries. This connection to wetland animals will help to foster future stewardship to protect our most important resource-the wetlands.

Learn how to balance all food groups during your meals, and enjoy some healthy snacks too! If you've always wanted to play life-sized Jenga, this program is for you! What other games can we make life size? Stop by and find out.

The AquaVan brings the excitement of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, exploring the natural treasures of a tropical rainforest, an ocean teeming with life, and even meet some animal neighbors from your own backyard!  The AquaVan comes with amazing animals, enthusiastic presenters, and an endless fascination of nature's wonders. Programs feature live aquatic or terrestrial animals and interactive hands-on displays.

Time to go for the Gold! Kids will complete the various exercise stations around the walking track then make their own Olympic medal.

Field Day Finale Party

Calling all Summer Reading Program registrants! Join us on Thursday, June 30 at 5:30pm for a Field Day themed finale party, hosted just for YOU! We'll have a variety of fun and games, all located on the grassy area by the Bay St. Louis Splash Pad (corner of Dunbar and Ulman). We'll have music, snacks, and door prizes. And don't forget ? You must be present to win one of the grand prizes! In the event of inclement weather, we will move to the Bay St. Louis-Hancock County Library.
